Why use a torrent?

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) communications protocol. BitTorrent is a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the entire costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. Instead, when data is distributed using the BitTorrent protocol, each recipient supplies pieces of the data to newer recipients, reducing the cost and burden on any given individual source, providing redundancy against system problems, and reducing dependence on the original distributor. The protocol is the brainchild of programmer Bram Cohen, who designed it in April 2001 and released a first implementation on 2 July 2001. It is now maintained by Cohen's company BitTorrent, Inc.
The popularity of torrent over other p2p applications like Kazaa or Morpheus or Limewire is that the Torrent protocol makes the most efficient use of the bandwidth, ensuring downloaders do not crowd each other out.A fake file is more easily caught by the torrent community and viruses are difficult to slip through.A free programme like PeerGaurdian will block most dubious IP addresses.

Torrent is not just for new movies but you can also find cinema classics like 12 angry men,a few good med etc...that are hard to find. You can also download running series like Heroes or download and store Friends in your harddisk.
One disadvantage about the torrent is that it is easy for the recording industry to know your IP. However the possibility of legal action is very less in most countries because the recording industry prefers to go after torrent sites rether than the downloaders. But AXXO(the legendry and prolific uploader) and others like him continue to upload and the torrenting community hasn`t skipped a beat so far.
